Expanded PTCs

Expanded PTCs is an enlargement of the premium tax credit program implemented under the Affordable Care Act. Expanded PTCs increased the size of premium subsidizs and expanded the number of Americans who qualify for these subsidies. In the American Rescue Plan Act and the Inflation Reduction Act, Democrats in Congress increased the amount of PTCs for households currently eligible for them by expanding PTC eligibility to households with income above 400 percent of the federal poverty level. They also reduced the percentage of income that subsidized individuals pay as a share of health insurance expense.
