Eric Sun

Research Fellow

Eric Sun is a research fellow at Paragon Health Institute and an assistant professor and Associate Division Chief in the Department of Anesthesiology, Perioperative and Pain Medicine at Stanford University. He recently served as a senior economist for the White House Council of Economic Advisers. His research interests focus on the opioid epidemic and the economics of physician behavior. In addition, as a practicing anesthesiologist, he also provides care for patients undergoing surgery.

Dr. Sun’s research is funded by the National Institutes of Health and has been featured in leading journals including JAMA, JAMA Internal Medicine, the Annals of Internal Medicine, the BMJ, the Journal of Health Economics, and Health Affairs. He served on a National Academies of Science, Engineering, and Medicine panel on opioid prescribing guidelines and also serves on the editorial boards of Anesthesiology and Anesthesia and Analgesia.

Dr. Sun received a MD from the Pritzker School of Medicine and a PhD from the Booth Graduate School of Business at the University of Chicago. He completed an anesthesiology residency at Stanford University.
