On February 6, 2025, Paragon’s visiting research fellow Kev Coleman was quoted in Inside Health Policy.
From the article:
FDA, artificial intelligence developers and providers should collaborate on “federated standardized outcome data networks” that would allow stakeholders to keep AI data locally while aggregating key information into centralized databases, according to a new policy brief from the conservative think tank Paragon Health Institute. Such data networks would support post-market surveillance of health AI tools, a current focus of agencies, lawmakers and AI developers as emerging technologies enter the health care sector.
“We argue that to increase the expediency at which best health AI technologies are brought to patients and clinicians while at the same time improve their safety and efficacy, a larger paradigm shift is necessary that places a heavier emphasis on post-market surveillance,” the brief says.
Kev Coleman, one of the brief’s authors, told Inside Health Policy that electronic health record vendors should also get involved in conversations around federated standardized outcome data networks. EHR vendors can help facilitate networks’ data collection process, reducing a burden on providers.
