WashingtonApril 24, 2023 — Paragon Health Institute is pleased to announce the launch of its Congressional Fellows Program.

The Paragon Congressional Fellows Program is an opportunity for aspiring health care and health policy professionals to gain first-hand experience in public policy through a fellowship with a congressional office. Participants will work on a wide range of health policy issues, engaging with stakeholders and policymakers. During the program, fellows will gain a deep insight into the inner workings of Capitol Hill and the policymaking process.

Paragon’s inaugural Congressional Fellow, Abigail Chance, will work in the Office of the Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy.

Mrs. Chance comes to Paragon with over four years of nonprofit health policy experience. Prior to joining Paragon, Chance was a policy analyst at the America First Policy Institute (AFPI), where she analyzed state and federal legislation and provided insight that guided the creation of free-market policy solutions to improve the American health care system. Her areas of research spanned prescription drug pricing, alternative health insurance models, and responses to the fentanyl crisis.

She holds a Master of Arts and a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Miami University in Ohio.

Chance spoke with enthusiasm about her new role. “It is an honor to be Paragon’s inaugural congressional fellow and an incredible opportunity to work in the Speaker’s office. I look forward to getting first-hand experience in the policy process, broadening my knowledge about how government health programs are working, and evaluating health reform proposals.”

The President of Paragon Health Institute, Brian Blase, PhD, echoed Mrs. Chance’s statements, saying, “Paragon’s focus is informing the health policy debate, making sure that key policymakers are aware of how government health programs actually work, and contributing ideas that would reform health policy through expanded choice, competition, and a regulatory climate conducive to innovation. Abigail Chance is an outstanding choice as our first Congressional Fellow, and we are extremely excited about what she will learn and contribute during the next year working in the Office of Speaker McCarthy. We are deeply grateful that the Speaker has agreed to place Abigail in his office.”
