An introductory briefing on Medicare Advantage

Please join us for lunch at our upcoming Congressional Health Policy Education Program event in CVC 217. Chick-fil-A lunch will be provided. Please feel free to share this invite with any health care staffer you think would be interested.

During the event, Congressional health staff will have be given an overview of Medicare Advantage, including its structure and financing and CMS’ role in oversight and regulation.

Panelists include:

Demetrious Kouzoukas is the Director of Paragon Health Institute’s Medicare Initiative. From 2017 to 2021, Kouzoukas served as the Chief Executive of the Medicare program at the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). In that role, he worked with patients, policymakers, providers, insurers, and manufacturers to improve health care in the United States. He developed and operationalized a vision to enhance patient-driven health care nationwide, testifying about it before Congress.

John Brooks is a JD and MBA who most recently held multiple senior health executive positions overseeing the Administration’s health portfolio, including Senior Advisor for Drug Pricing to the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS), Principal Deputy Director of the Center for Medicare at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Counselor to the Secretary for Health Policy, and health policy advisor at the White House Domestic Policy Council. Brooks also provided transition planning to the new Administration and led the incoming Administration’s work with respect to CMS.
